This chill song is perfect for a slower night, as Klein continually laments his break up. Unlike LANY’s usual style, “ Let Me Know ” features R&B beats and jazzy chords. From the start, I never thought I’d say this before, but I don’t wanna love you anymore,” Klein confesses in the chorus of “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore.” ” From this point forward, the album takes a lighter turn, reminiscing on the acceptance of break up. Both of these synth-heavy songs of confusion, denial and doubt lead into “ I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore. “But was it really love if you could leave me for something so innocent? Is this the end? Thought you’d be there through thick and thin,” Klein sings.įollowing “Thick and Thin,” electronic-based songs “ Taking Me Back ” and “ If You See Her ” paint descriptive stories of wanting someone back right after a breakup. Although the song may sound joyful at first, the lyrics say otherwise. The album opens with “ Thick and Thin ,” which the Los Angeles-based trio released as a single last month. LANY frontman Paul Klein admits the lyrical theme of the album deals with the aftermath of his January breakup, presenting their new album, steeped in soul and passion. “ Thru These Tears ” and “ I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore ” released as singles this past summer, giving fans a glimpse of the heartbreaking and painful nature of the album which brings sadness and confusion together with a dance-inducing, upbeat vibe. This nine-track album fueled by heartache and confusion may as well be titled “LANY’s diary: a guide to breakups.” ALBUM OF HEARTACHE Although it has only been less than a week since its release, most of the album’s songs already boast over 1 million plays on Spotify. A remarkable addition to their catalogue.Indie pop band LANY released their much-anticipated sophomore album, “ Malibu Nights ,” on Oct. Malibu Nights pretty much gets a perfect score from me. These songs are honest, and in an industry that puts dishonesty on a pedestal, they’re such a breath of fresh air. These guys have a formula that is true to them and clearly resonates with listeners, which is why their fan base is so dedicated and supportive. I really loved the listening experience, and sonically it was very satisfying. They’re beautiful ballads, and they really help bring this album to a strong and meaningful close that makes sense.Īll in all, I think this is their best work to date since their EPs. While Thick and Thin, Taking Me Back, and If You See Her bring more energy, these two songs balance it out with a necessary slower pace. Lastly, Valentine’s Day and Malibu Nights are simply gorgeous songs. They all stand out on their own, and I think in a few years we’ll look back and still hold these songs in high regard. The first 4 tracks that were released (Thick and Thin, If You See Her, I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore, Thru These Tears) are just amazing and have huge replay-ability, and I think they really round out this album and give it lasting power.
#LANY MALIBU NIGHTS ALBUM COVER PLUS#
This was a refreshing track and nothing else on the album sounds like it, which is a huge plus considering all the songs revolve around the same theme. Taking Me Back has a really uplifting instrumental to offset the lyrical content, which again harkens back to their earlier work in the EPs. You have no idea, as a dude, how true those words are. I think the lyrics on this track are some of the most relatable to me, personally. Run gives me some Justin Bieber “Purpose” vibes, and I was glad to see the boys step out and experiment with that particular style. That track alone shows me that they’ve progressed and elevated their sound while still sticking true to the heart of what makes LANY, LANY. Do I even have to say anything about that instrumental on Let Me Know? Wow. The instrumentals have more depth and punch. There is no filler every track has its uniqueness and quality that is reminiscent of their earlier work in the Kinda, I Loved You, and Make Out EPs while working in their newer, more refined, and polished sound. I’m happy to say the boys came through and then some.ĩ tracks, I think, is perfect for the theme of the album. I was really hoping their second album would be more focused and shorter, putting an emphasis on quality more than quantity.

As a fan of the EPs at the start of their career, the debut self titled full length was a tad bit disappointing as it was obvious there was a good amount of filler tracks that sounded alike and contained the same melodies.
